Railway station comes back to Selkirk – all the way from Plattling.

11th October 2019
A group of very talented railway enthusiasts from Plattling, Bavaria are currently enjoying a stay in their twin town of Selkirk. Their main reason for driving all the way over from southern Germany was to present a scale model of Selkirk Railway Station to the town.
The idea arose 4 years ago when some visitors from Selkirk took up the invitation to visit their Model Railway Club, based in a spacious room in the main station of Plattling.
The Selkirk visitors were really impressed by the scale of the model railway system the club members had created, and particularly its accuracy and attention to detail. This led to a discussion on how there had once been a station in Selkirk. When our Bavarian friends heard that the station no longer existed, they offered to look into building a scale model. So, the work started with thorough and painstaking research. In charge of planning was Gerd Dietrich, who carefully studied a multitude of plans and old photographs in their quest for accuracy. Gerd then took on the task of constructing the buildings, Alex Hoffmann painted all the buildings and Walter Schmelz was responsible for providing locomotives, carriages and figures.
The highly impressive finished model was unveiled and displayed on Sunday at a very enjoyable presentation evening at The Haining.
