Selkirk Ex-Standard Bearers Charity and Good Causses Presentation Night

On Saturday night the Selkirk Royal and Ancient Burgh Ex Standard Bearers Association held their Annual charity Presentation Night in Selkirk Conservative Club. Chairman Gary Guthrie welcomed everyone before making a presentation to Judith Thompson of Selkirk in Bloom to help with ensuring Selkirk has plenty flowers around the town this summer. The next presentations were made by Ex Standard Bearer Colin Squance to Selkirk’s Flute, Pipe and Silver bands. Chairman Guthrie then Presented the Bunting Girls with a cheque for £150, The Bunting girls make and repair the True Blue and Scarlet Bunting that goes up around the town at the Common Riding ensuring that Selkirk looks great each year in the build up and at Selkirk Common Riding. These presentations were made from general funds of the association from functions they run throughout the year. The next two presentations were made as a result of last Augusts Charity and Good Causes Rideout. The First was made by Chairman Guthrie to Isobel Hogarth on behalf of the local branch of Marie Curie, this was from the collection taken at the main stop on the rideout near Ettrickbridge. The second and the main presentation of the evening was made by Ex Standard Bearer Martin Rodgerson who presented a cheque for £4000 to Frightened Rabbits Grant Hutchison (Pictured above) to the Tiny Changes Charity. Over £1300 of this came from a donation made at the Riders social after the August Rideout by members of Selkirk Conservative Club led by Jackson Cockburn. Grant Hutchison who was joined by his mum and dad Marion and Ron Hutchison then thanked everyone for the presentation as well as talking about the Tiny Changes charity. Ex Standard Bearer Scott Tomlinson then announced that this years Charities and good Causes rideout will be on Saturday the 5th of September.
Following the presentations and Supper the company were entertained by talented Selkirk duo Alex Handyside and Milly Coltherd.

The Ex standard Bearers are grateful to Selkirk Conservative Club for keeping everyone fed and watered throughout the night. The next event on the Association’s calendar will be the Appointment Night Concert and Dance on Friday the 24th of April when the fantastic band Skyline will be performing again.
